I – myself being a blues fan – thought about making a panorama in one of my favorite pubs here in Budapest. The place called “Nothin’ But The Blues Pub”, and it has a very bluesy atmosphere. The guests are very friendly and the beer is inexpensive. If you are hungry they also serve some sandwiches which are very delicious and of extra size at a reasonable price. If you ever visit Budapest and want to spend a great night having some beer with your friends, I would recommend this place!

For every WWP panoramas I try to select a location with a personal relevance, what also matches with the current theme. This time I chose the Ráday street in Budapest, which is a famous street with full of pubs and restaurants – that’s the connection to the topic “food”. In november 2009 me and my girlfriend started to look for a flat on sale, and in december the decision was made finally: we bought a 45 sqm flat in this street.

View the panorama in immersive mode › 2,424 kbytes (2.37 Mbytes)

Ráday street, found in the 9th district of Budapest, is one of the most popular and most visited places of the capital. The intimate street which offers a treasury of leasure activities, cultural and gastronomical opportunities is popular with the inhabitants of the capital city as well as with tourists from the country or abroad. Due to the numerous festivals organised here, in the year 2000 Ráday street turned into a so called “cult street”.

Each year Ráday street awaits the public, that is susceptible to culture and is willing to spend its free time in a top class environment. From April to October in the course of “Ráday cult street” about eight fetsivals are organised here. From among the mentioned festivals the following are the most popular: International Poetry Festival, Plein-Art Contemporary Art Festival, Reformed Music Festival, Summer Games in Ferencváros, Ferenc Day Fair. Besides this three galleries, a Bible museum and the previously mentioned library awaits the art lovers.

No matter if we end up in Ráday street in the morning or at night, it is never deserted; there are always some people sitting at the cafés or restaurants and their terraces. Among many others it is due to the some 14 cafés that can be found here. Ráday street can be devided into two strikingly detaching parts; the boundary is Bakáts Square. The Saint Ferenc Catholic Church can also be found here. Heading towards Boráros Square from here the view is slightly less attractive; it is the other side, the one towards Kálvin Square is the actual pedestrian precinct. Most cafés are found here: the starting point is Jaffa Café, and the line of cafés ends with a retro bar called Cha-cha-cha that is found in the subway at Kálvin Square.

Because of it being much frequented the government of Ferencváros – the building of which is also situated here – is consistently working on transforming Ráday Street into a solely pedestrian precinct. Today cars can still run along the street in one direction, however the traffic is kept reduced so that the people visiting this place can have fun and relax undisturbed.

Albeit I had pretty much to do to prepare for my lecture about panoramics,
we’ve combined work with pleasure and taken this panoramic at a terrace pub
at the Garden of Medieval Ruins in Szekesfehervar.

View the panorama in immersive mode › 2,443 kbytes (2.39 Mbytes)

This picture is a not-so-official panorama, it wasn’t amongst the panoramas
which was in the handout. By the way, I hope you’ve got all the stuff I gave
to Mr. Bela Markus on the day I left. It is very bad that no one left here a
feedback or some words about my lecture. I thought that it was interesting,
by every indication during the lecture it was at least interesting for some of you.

Me and my girlfriend arrived just a day before you, and I had the difficult
task to compile the whole stuff for the lab part of the day. (I’ve prepared the
presentation about a week before, so that was ready a long ago.)
First we went trough the center to select the appropriate locations for the
panoramas, then took the source pictures and went back to stitch it together.
I needed to make all the stitching, at least I had a reference Hugin project file
if something goes wrong. These you could even download from here!

After that I’ve uploaded all the source images to the lab computers. In the lab
there was only Wi-Fi connection, and it turned out that it is unsuitable for
copying multiple Gbytes of data over it. So I burned some DVDs, and spread
the stuff with the help of these disks. It was very hot in that lab, the air condition
broke down, and the whole process took the half of saturday. Fortunately I’ve
finished with it at 8 pm, and after that I could have some beer at the icebreaking party.

By the way, the third glass on the desk is a fake, we had only 1 beer per head.
I just could retouch it from the final panorama, as I don’t have a source picture of the
background without the glass.

This panorama was made as a demonstration of how to make
a spherical panorama with a panoramic head. You can see me at
the podium, I gave this lecture about panoramics for this little group.

View the panorama in immersive mode › 1,812 kbytes (1.77 Mbytes)

I’ve jittered a little bit, because I usually don’t speak english.
Fortunately this was gone at the first 5 minutes, and I realized
that those 2 years reading english technician papers and scientific
materials helps me a lot.

For the lecture I’ve prepared everyhting, but one thing. The fact,
that you can see me at the podium in this panorama, is due to the
photographs taken by my girlfriend and assistant Eszter Kallai. I’ve
forgotten namely about the picture from myself.

A kind guy called Suchin has asked me at the end of the lecture:

“What if I forget to take a picture, or something went wrong with stitching?”

Suddenly I couldn’t respond with a good enough answer, I’ve just thrown back:

“Photoshop can make magic!”

After that a small laugh went trough the room, but I meant it as I said.
You can see it, I inserted a picture with a completely different viewpoint,
and it is almost undetectable. If you see long enough this picture,
you will have a feeling that there’s something wrong with that backpack
at the table, and as if I am a little larger as I used to. By the way, later
I gave a second answer for that question too. If the scenery has a lot of
moving stuff, I used to do 2- or 3 sets of pictures to assure the perfect stitch.

Just stay tuned, the other pictures will coming!

For this event I chose one of my favourite lookout tower.

View the panorama in immersive mode › 3,455 kbytes (3.37 Mbytes)

It resides in Matra, this is the highest Mountain of Hungary. We took our
tents and did a holiday camp in the nature. Finally I’ve finished my studies
at the St. Istvan University so it was also a good occasion to celebrate my
diploma in Communication Techniques Engineering. The moral was also very
elevated, at least after some Tequilas.

Anyway, this lookout tower served as an oil drill some hundred kilometres
away that place, near Szeged. (A hungarian city.) After the site was
exhausted in the late sixties the tower was brought here with large effort
to enjoy the beautiful panorama from the top of it.

It’s been a long time since I published my last panorama here,
but I was very busy. The next WWP event is coming, and I didn’t
even published my submission from december. Unfortunately I missed
the autumn event, the theme was colours. I had the idea of a large
colorful theme park, but had flu and didn’t want to go out in the cold.

Anyway, this one is from march 2008, so it is one year old. I remember
those days, the wind blowed very heavy, all the internal shots were done
long ago, I missed only some external panoramas around the university to
make the virtual tour ready.
Alas it was not a good choice to shoot the outdoor scenes in march,
you cannot see the beautiful flora around the university surroundings.

This panorama was taken at the main dormitory of the Szent Istvan Egyetem,
the second, newly built one will be the subject of my next upload.

This panorama was made from the window at the third floor.

View the panorama in immersive mode › 1,933 kbytes (1.89 Mbytes)

When you look downwards you can see the parking lot dedicated
directly to the higher staff of the unversity, such as dean, etc…

Behind the cars there is a large green park with a statue of prince Kalman on a horse.
Coloman I. the Book-lover (Hungarian: I. (Könyves) Kálmán), also spelled Koloman (c. 1070 – 3 February 1116),
was the king of Hungary (1095-1116) and of Croatia (1102-1116).

Anyway, this picture was made with the help of enfuse. There were
3 separate exposures and all those were fused together.
However, the ceiling and the bottom parts were not too perfect due to
that enfuse handles the zenith and nadir (upper and lower) parts not yet properly,
it is only in an alpha state.

“If contrasty structures are near zenith or nadir in an equirectangular image, there might be an artifact (vortex) in the resulting pano. Workaround: use on zenith and nadir images separately and stitch them in the resulting pano afterwards.”
http://wiki.panotools.org/Enfuse

So I was given with a large neon-greenish artifact, and I needed to PS it away.
But the retouch was not perfect, you can see me with the tripod becoming sweaty
in the glass. It was too hot in the window because of the reflections.

By the way, the sitting student is my colleague and good friend, Daniel Kadar.
He helped me carrying all the photo accessories during the photoshoot of the University.

Thank you again, Daniel!
