This picture was made at the city center in Szekesfehervar,
during a visit to the historical center. If you were there,
and have a question about my presentation or anything about photography
or panoramics, just write me an email and I’ll gladly answer you.
You can find my email address at the bottom of this page, in the footer.
Later I will upload the other panoramas too, and there will be a new
menu where you can download my presentation, and other stuffs.
Hopefully you will get the sources on DVD, I gave it to Mr. Bela Markus.

Albeit I had pretty much to do to prepare for my lecture about panoramics,
we’ve combined work with pleasure and taken this panoramic at a terrace pub
at the Garden of Medieval Ruins in Szekesfehervar.

View the panorama in immersive mode › 2,443 kbytes (2.39 Mbytes)

This picture is a not-so-official panorama, it wasn’t amongst the panoramas
which was in the handout. By the way, I hope you’ve got all the stuff I gave
to Mr. Bela Markus on the day I left. It is very bad that no one left here a
feedback or some words about my lecture. I thought that it was interesting,
by every indication during the lecture it was at least interesting for some of you.

Me and my girlfriend arrived just a day before you, and I had the difficult
task to compile the whole stuff for the lab part of the day. (I’ve prepared the
presentation about a week before, so that was ready a long ago.)
First we went trough the center to select the appropriate locations for the
panoramas, then took the source pictures and went back to stitch it together.
I needed to make all the stitching, at least I had a reference Hugin project file
if something goes wrong. These you could even download from here!

After that I’ve uploaded all the source images to the lab computers. In the lab
there was only Wi-Fi connection, and it turned out that it is unsuitable for
copying multiple Gbytes of data over it. So I burned some DVDs, and spread
the stuff with the help of these disks. It was very hot in that lab, the air condition
broke down, and the whole process took the half of saturday. Fortunately I’ve
finished with it at 8 pm, and after that I could have some beer at the icebreaking party.

By the way, the third glass on the desk is a fake, we had only 1 beer per head.
I just could retouch it from the final panorama, as I don’t have a source picture of the
background without the glass.

This panorama was made as a demonstration of how to make
a spherical panorama with a panoramic head. You can see me at
the podium, I gave this lecture about panoramics for this little group.

View the panorama in immersive mode › 1,812 kbytes (1.77 Mbytes)

I’ve jittered a little bit, because I usually don’t speak english.
Fortunately this was gone at the first 5 minutes, and I realized
that those 2 years reading english technician papers and scientific
materials helps me a lot.

For the lecture I’ve prepared everyhting, but one thing. The fact,
that you can see me at the podium in this panorama, is due to the
photographs taken by my girlfriend and assistant Eszter Kallai. I’ve
forgotten namely about the picture from myself.

A kind guy called Suchin has asked me at the end of the lecture:

“What if I forget to take a picture, or something went wrong with stitching?”

Suddenly I couldn’t respond with a good enough answer, I’ve just thrown back:

“Photoshop can make magic!”

After that a small laugh went trough the room, but I meant it as I said.
You can see it, I inserted a picture with a completely different viewpoint,
and it is almost undetectable. If you see long enough this picture,
you will have a feeling that there’s something wrong with that backpack
at the table, and as if I am a little larger as I used to. By the way, later
I gave a second answer for that question too. If the scenery has a lot of
moving stuff, I used to do 2- or 3 sets of pictures to assure the perfect stitch.

Just stay tuned, the other pictures will coming!

The class called “presentation systems”. We learned a lot about
how we can give a lecture, and what tools and appliances are
available for that task. We also learned how one can use these tools
to bring out the best efficiency out of them.

At the beginning of the lecture I shot the source pictures for this
VR panorama, and one week later I gave a lecture about how this panorama
was made.

From here you can download the complete Powerpoint slideshow:

*** Viktor Balogh – Making of VR panoramas [HUN] ***

This stuff is hungarian, but contains some useful information and
a lot of pictures. In the summer I will give a workshop, for this
time it will be in english. There will be a summer school in Székesfehérvár,
for more info see http://www.geo.info.hu/urban3d. I will publish
the slides as soon as they’ll get ready, and from there I’ll return with
some more interesting VRs too. These massive SZIE panoramas about
my University become a bit boring.
