This year the worldwide “Earth Hour” event gave me a hint what to
shoot for the Limits equinox. They say that we are slowly beyond the
limits of our mother earth’s resources.

We consume so much energy that our earth cannot reproduce it. So
let’s just give a break to the nature for at least an hour, and turn off
all the lights for 60 minutes.

With all the floodlights turned off at the main buildings of the city it
resulted in a very soft scene to the capital of my country. I chose this
very place to shoot because I wanted to take a long-exposure picture
of our world-famous parliament and the lights turned off gave me a
chance to get some ships of long exposure on the Danube without
overexposing the building.

As you can see they only turned off the exterior floodlights at the
parliament. It was the same with the bridges: the street-lightnings
were left on not to disturb the traffic. However in the Buda Castle
everything was turned off as they organized a torch festival.

I added some small thumbnails of the most famous buildings of Budapest
for easier to recognize, you can find these at the bottom of the panorama.

Farewell party

From 1st february onwards I am working for a new company, my role was changed to IT systems engineer but basically my tasks remained the same plus some HW support and storage.

I worked 3 years at my former employer, I spent that time in an excellent team of IT professionals. We’ve helped each other along the way, had several teambuildings and many beers. That night we came together to remember the good memories and to have a good time. But this was not the last time, we promised each other to meet in the future.

To the quality of the picture: I have a new business laptop with an LED display. Alas it turned out that the LED display is not eligible for picture editing, so this panorama might have some flaws, especially with the colors. It is hard to rely only on the histogram and not able to take a look on a proof. So I need to procure a high-quality LCD for image editing.

A forgotten World Wide Panorama submission

Yes, this is a forgotten one back from september 2008. The theme was ‘color’, I shot this that time but couldn’t manage to stitch it in time…

…until yesterday when I found a folder with several unstitched panorama sources. I cannot stitch it back then, as I laid in bed with high fever and bad flu. This is what you see in this picture also. I shot this panorama with the help of my girlfriend who took care of me as I was sick. I hoped that I can get better in time to stitch this, but alas the time was up for submit for the color event. So this was left unstitched until now.

And how it connects to the theme ‘color’? I only left the salt lamp in the scene lit, so it painted everything orange. And – as you can see – where no light could fall, there is no color at all. This means, color makes sense only if there’s light in the scene. Without a light source there’s no color. I often dreamed about a panorama with very low light conditions, I wanted to get a feeling of everything levitates in a black space, and only some important things get lit. This is similar to my first WWP panorama, which was shot in the same room. Back then, I didn’t have that dormer window.

So, get ready for some old stuff, which comes in the next days/weeks!

Raday renovation pt. IV. – Living room

A panorama from the 13th week again, this was made from the doorstep to the living room. There you can see our brand new front door, it has only 2 plies of ground coat. We will paint all the windows and doors next spring so we delayed the painting of this also to get the same colour for all the wooden seals.

As you can see the gas convectors are back, hopefully we can get back the gasometer the next week and can heat up the place to lose some vapour from the air. What’s left for this year: to lay the floor tiles, to set up the wall plugs and switches, to chisel the parquet, and to floor the loft with ash wood. Stay tuned, it’s almost finished, more panoramas are to come!

Raday renovation pt. IV. – Loft

This was taken on the 13th week of the renovation. As you can see, the loft is almost ready, only the arc is incomplete. In the next week the walls get painted white, and the LED lights will be mounted.

The boards for the stairs will be finished later, it will be made of walnut, the timbers for it are currently in the dehydrator. Look back on moday, there comes another panorama!

Raday renovation pt. II. – living room

This panorama is also pretty old, it comes also from the 3rd week of the renovation. This will be our two-storey living room, respectively there will be the bedroom upstairs. In the corner where you can see the ladder leaned towards the wall, there will be a nice stairs and the upper slab becomes a light, soft arc. I can’t wait to move in again, hopefully they will finish it in december, before christmas. Look for the other panoramas in the “Raday_street” category, there must be some newer panoramas about the renovation!

This point of view wasn’t a right decision to take the panorama from, it has the same height as the slab and that’s why it seems like only a straight line and you don’t get the idea about space. However, here is another panorama made by that time, which was taken from the upper level. From there you have a decent lookout to the whole room.

Raday renovation pt. II. – kitchen

This panorama is about a month old, it was made on the 3rd week of the renovation. As you can see, our kitchen was by that time pretty crushed. It was the initial stage of welding the steel frame together. There will be a bathroom upstairs, the door up there will lead to the bedroom.

Raday renovation pt. III.

By the ninth week, the windows were already there, the door to the bathroom was also installed, and the slab of the bathroom is finished. Down under you can see the frame of the stairway half-way readied. The bedroom will be separated from the hall by glass bricks. The whole flat was designed entirely by my girlfriend, she also coordinates the construction and the procurement.
